Congratulations to winners of the 2024 ISH awards presented at ISH2024. The ISH Franz Volhard Award and Lectureship for Outstanding Research was awarded to Stephen Harrap, in recognition of his lifetime of global contributions made in hypertension research at the highest level and his outstanding service to the ISH.

Professor George Stergiou has officially taken up office as ISH President for a term running from 2024 to 2026.

The ISH was pleased to welcome its newly elected Council Members during the General Meeting at the ISH Cartagena Biennial Scientific Meeting today.

New blood pressure measurement devices such as cuff-less wrist monitors are likely to play an important role in hypertension diagnosis and management in future – but several challenges remain before these new technologies can be introduced widely, according to a new position paper from the International Society of Hypertension.

We are now just four weeks away from what promises to be a truly memorable ISH meeting in the beautiful city of Cartagena. The program is finalized and packed with excitement, featuring over 90 sessions and 118 speakers who will present the latest and most groundbreaking advances in the field of hypertension.

ISH members and officers were central to the recent Southern African Hypertension Society Biennial Congress held in Johannesburg from 16 to 18 August 2024. ISH Academy lead Erika Jones and ISH Mentorship and Training Committee Chair Lebo Gafane-Matemane were part of the local organising faculty. ISH Past-President Alta Schutte was part of the international organising faculty.

ISH members were part of the Brazilian Society of Hypertension (SBH) Meeting held in São Paulo, Brazil, from 25 to 27 July. The Meeting included a Joint Symposium of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), Interamerican Society of Hypertension (IASH) and Brazilian Society of Hypertension (SBH) on the topic of “Difficulties of the scientific societies to work together – what are solutions?”

ISH President Bryan Williams, Treasurer Fadi Charchar and Immediate Past President Maciej Tomaszewski delivered a special symposium on crafting a wellness programme for heart health.

ISH President-Elect Professor George Stergiou encourages members to get involved in the work of the ISH during his Presidential term from 2024 to 2026. The ISH has several active committees and boards, ongoing projects, and plans for new ones. There are opportunities to volunteer in a range of roles. Deadline: 31 July.
