07 Sep 2026: The ISH will publish its 2026 Global Practice Guidelines for Hypertension next month.

The 2026 guidelines will be officially presented in Dubai at the ISH-ECS 2026 Scientific Meeting during a dedicated session on Saturday 24 October at 17:15 local time.

ISH President George Stergiou said: “It has been six years since ISH last published global hypertension guidelines. These guidelines were widely recognised for their concise, practical and user-friendly approach. Since then, the evidence base and available technologies for hypertension diagnosis and management have evolved substantially. The evidence has moved on significantly since then, making it important that we provide healthcare professionals around the world with clear, practical and up-to-date guidance.

“As in 2020, the 2026 ISH guidelines provide both Essential and Optimal recommendations, recognising the very different circumstances in which healthcare professionals around the world are managing hypertension.

ISH will also launch a new AI-powered tool designed to support wide implementation. Healthcare professionals are busy, and they need to be able to find the practical information and guidance they need quickly. The tool will enable them to get immediate, practical answers to their questions about hypertension management, based on the new ISH guidelines.”

“Publishing guidelines is the first step. They need to be accessible, understood and put into practice. Following publication, we will roll out a dedicated global implementation programme to support dissemination of the guidelines across different healthcare settings, with the aim of influencing clinical practice.

ISH Secretary and President-Elect Kazuomi Kario, who will take over as ISH President at the end of the 2026 Meeting, said: “A key priority of my Presidency will be to support the global implementation of these guidelines. We need to make the recommendations accessible and actionable, while working with partners around the world to address the diverse challenges of hypertension management in different healthcare settings.

The combination of our new guidelines, a global implementation program, and an innovative AI-powered tool provides a unique opportunity to accelerate improvements in blood pressure control worldwide. Our goal is to help more people achieve better cardiovascular health through effective hypertension management.”
