New report aims to improve adherence to blood pressure treatment
The ISH is pleased to support the launch of a new report which aims to improve adherence to treatment for high blood pressure.
The ISH contributed to the report, led by Servier and launched yesterday (30 Jan), which aims to reduce the burden of hypertension around the world.
The report highlights the barriers to treatment adherence, and sets out recommendations to improve treatment adherence including:
- A requirement for healthcare professionals to monitor adherence to treatment
- Use of new technologies to analyse adherence
- Greater use of combination treatments which contain more than one drug, making it easier for patients to adhere to treatment.
ISH Past President Maciej Tomaszewski spoke at an event held this morning at the European Parliament to mark the launch of the report.
He highlighted the high prevalence and causes of non-adherence to treatment, the analysis of urine as a new approach to monitoring adherence, and how clinicians can manage non-adherence.
