ISH President recognised in the King’s New Year Honours in UK

Congratulations to ISH President Bryan Williams who has been awarded an OBE for services to medicine in the King’s New Year Honours List 2024 in the UK.

UK honours are awarded to those who have made significant achievements in public life.

Prof Williams is recognised in the most recent Clarivate listings as one of the world’s most influential clinical scientists, and has worked as a front-line clinician in the National Health Service in the UK for 40 years. He began his term as ISH President in 2022.

Prof Williams recently commenced a new position as the first Chief Scientific and Chief Medical Officer at the British Heart Foundation. He is a Chair of Medicine at UCL and consultant physician at UCLH.

From 2012 to 2023 he was Director of the NIHR UCLH Biomedical Research Centre and Director of Research at UCLH from 2014 to 2023.

Commenting on the honour, Prof Williams said: “I am delighted to receive this national honour in recognition of my services to medicine. It is at times like this you pause and reflect on where you have come from, the incredible support of my family and the contribution of the many dedicated and talented people I have had the privilege to work with in the NHS and academia throughout my career.”
