Attending ISH2024 in Cartagena was a deeply rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. As a research scientist committed to advancing cardiovascular health, I was drawn to the conference’s diverse and forward-looking scientific programme, particularly sessions on hypertension in low-resource settings and innovations in early detection, which closely align with my current research focus.
The meeting offered a unique opportunity to engage with global perspectives on cardiovascular care, reconnect with friends and colleagues, and the opportunity to support emerging researchers. I was privileged to contribute to several sessions, including chairing and presenting at the preconference ISH Capacity Building Network Symposium. My presentations on early vascular aging and hypertension in African children, along with facilitating expert discussions on adolescent hypertension, underscored my dedication to collaborative science and global health equity.
Beyond the academic value of this memorable conference, I also enjoyed the history, warmth, and energy of Cartagena. Exploring the streets of the city and engaging with local culture underscored the value of hosting global events in diverse settings. I left ISH2024 inspired, with new connections and fresh ideas, and I am looking forward to the upcoming ISH2026 meeting in Dubai.
