One day symposium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, supported by ISH

18 Aug 2025: The ISH is proud to have supported a one-day symposium, entitled ‘Bridging the Generations in Science’, held at the University of Buenos Aires on 17th July 2025, which specifically targeted early career researchers. With 120 participants, the symposium was a big success.

The symposium was organised by a group of 12 international Renin-Angiotensin-System researchers with ISH member Mariela Gironacci acting as the local host and ISH members Edward Sturrock (University of Cape Town), Augusto Montezano (McGill University) and ISH Council member Muscha Steckelings serving as members of the organising committee.

The symposium was supported by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, the Argentine Society of Hypertension (SAHA), and the ISH, specifically the ISH Americas Regional Advisory Group chaired by ISH Council member Dagnovar Aristizabal.

The programme consisted of presentations of latest cardiovascular science with 5 senior and 16 young investigator speakers followed by 7 parallel workshops on topics related to career development, which were particularly well received.

Workshop topics were:

  • How to build a career in science
  • Building a Career in the US as a Latin American
  • Academia or industry? Implications for Careers in Medical Research
  • Establishing successful research collaborations
  • Advantages and disadvantages of a career in science as a woman
  • Crossing the Bridge - from Academic to Translational Research
  • Fraud and Trust in Science

The ISH/ ISH Americas Regional Advisory Group sponsored five awards for best oral and poster presentations at the symposium.

The winners were:

The ISH is proud to have come to Argentina, where the current funding situation for research and conference attendance is critical. With this symposium, many young researchers got the opportunity to meet internationally renowned researchers in their field, to discuss their science, receive advice for their career planning, and grow their international network.
