26 Nov 2025: Starting from 2026, the ISH will hold a Scientific Meeting every year, following a recent, important decision by the ISH Council designed to accelerate scientific progress in the field of hypertension.
The shift to annual meetings replaces the current schedule – established in 1970 – of holding a meeting every two years. The move reflects the ISH’s commitment to providing more frequent opportunities for scientific exchange and collaboration. It also enables the Society to have a presence in more regions of the world, more often.
Each Annual Scientific Meeting will deliver:
The first annual meeting will take place in Dubai in 2026. For the ISH 2027 meeting, the ISH will launch an official call for bids to host the meeting in December 2025. The ISH welcomes meeting proposals from scientists, research groups, national societies of hypertension or cardiac societies outside the MENA and European regions - as the Scientific Meetings for 2026 and 2028 will be held in those regions.
ISH President George Stergiou said: “Our decision to hold an annual meeting is historic for the ISH. This was necessary as the pace of change in hypertension research and practice is simply too rapid for us to gather only every two years.
“Aside from the scientific programme, meeting more regularly will enable more opportunities for networking and connection between our members around the world. In-person gatherings are crucial for fostering the global scientific collaboration and networking that drive research and impact.
“Ultimately, more frequent meetings will better serve our members, partners, industry, and the global hypertension community.”
“If you are interested in preparing a bid to host the 2027 meeting, look out for further communications from us in December, but I encourage you to start preparing now. We want to receive bids from groups with a strong background in the field of hypertension or from national hypertension/cardiovascular societies to host the meeting.”
