26 Jan 2026: The ISH was part of Inter-American Society of Hypertension (IASH) Scientific Sessions in Guatemala City from 15–17 January 2026.
The ISH was represented by Council Members Debora Colombari (Brazil), Dagnovar Aristizabal (Colombia), and César Romero (Argentina), as well as David David (Colombia) from the New Investigator Committee and Fabio Parada (Guatemala).
The meeting featured ten plenary sessions, with ISH participating in three plenary sessions and leading two additional activities for new investigators. ISH also contributed to the poster sessions by serving as expert judges.
ISH members chaired and co-chaired several plenary sessions alongside IASH. Plenary Session 1 (‘The Cardiovascular Disease Burden in the Americas and the Caribbean Basin’) was chaired by Debora Colombari, with Dagnovar Aristizabal as a speaker presenting on The Cardiovascular Disease Burden in Latin America’. César Romero co-chaired Plenary Session 3 (‘Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Hypertension’) and delivered the lecture ‘The Kidney’s Bidirectional Role in Hypertension and the Cardiorenal-Metabolic Syndrome’ during Plenary Session 10.
The ISH New Investigator Committee also had a strong presence, leading the ISH- sponsored activity “The New Investigator Network in the Americas”, a speed mentoring activity coordinated by David David, Debora Colombari, and Fabio Parada, in collaboration with Ana Palei (IASH). Debora, Dagnovar, and César also participated as mentors.
In total, ten mentors provided guidance to 26 early- to mid-career investigators. On the second day of the meeting, a dedicated session for regional new investigators was held, chaired by David David and Debora Colombari. Speakers included Ernesto Schiffrin (former Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Hypertension) and Luis Alcocer (current President of IASH), who discussed strategies for publishing in international journals and how artificial intelligence is reshaping scientific publishing, respectively.
Dagnovar Aristizabal and César Romero also served as expert evaluators during the poster sessions. Finally, ISH contributed to the IASH Business Meeting, where César shared initiatives to further strengthen partnerships.
Overall, the meeting provided an excellent opportunity to advance regional collaboration, explore future joint projects, and support the next generation of investigators, reinforcing our shared commitment to improving hypertension prevention and control across the region, and highlighting IASH as an instrumental partner for ISH in the Americas.
