Call for ISH Council nominations 2026

20 May 2026: ISH Members can now nominate other ISH Members for ISH Council. The deadline for nominations is 29 June 2026.

The role of the Council

The ISH Council is the primary executive body overseeing the aspirations and activities of the Society. It is vital that our leadership reflects the full breadth of our international membership. In particular, the contributions of women and those from underrepresented regions are essential to the future growth and relevance of the ISH.

Up to four positions will become available at the end of October 2026. The term of office is four years, with the possibility of re-election for a second term. Members can nominate other Members as Council candidates, but cannot nominate themselves.

Council candidate nomination criteria and qualifications

ISH Members should strongly consider the following criteria when nominating other Members as candidates:

  • Research and education achievements
  • International recognition
  • The nominee’s involvement in hypertension community support and ISH activities
  • Balance of regional representation on the Council
  • A commitment to the aims and values of the ISH
  • A willingness to contribute time and energy to the work of the Society and to take on responsibilities to actively contribute to the work of the Society
  • Familiarity with how the ISH operates as an organisation
  • That you are not aware of any potential conflicts of interest. Council nominees cannot hold membership on the council or a committee of any organisation that is conducting international activities with similar aims and competes for the same funding.

While the Council cannot include a representative from every nation, we strive for a balanced presence across all major global regions. Ongoing representation includes members from Brazil, China, Colombia, Greece, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Sudan, and the USA.

Council member responsibilities

Council members serve as Trustees of the ISH - a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered in England and Wales (No. 1204969). This role carries specific legal and business commitments. Nominees must be prepared to devote significant time and energy to the Society’s needs and should familiarise themselves with the essential trustee brochure.

Nomination process

All nominations must be supported by three active Members of the ISH and must include:

  • Expression of Interest: a 1-page document from the nominee outlining their interest in the role
  • Support statements: a brief paragraph (max. 200 words) from each of the three nominating Members explaining why the nominee should be
    considered
  • Photograph: a current high-resolution photograph of the nominee for the election website and member communications.

Download the nominee 1-page form.

All documents should be received by the ISH Secretariat no later than Monday 29 June 2026, 23:59 BST / UK time.

All correspondence should be addressed to Professor Hiroshi Itoh as the chair of ISH 2026 Elections Committee.
