Bhavana Sosale interview - August New Investigator of the month
Join us in congratulating our August 2017 ISH New Investigator of the month, Dr. Bhavana Sosale from the Diacon Hospital Center for Diabetes Care and Research in Bangalore, India.
Dr. Bhavana Sosale is a physician working at the Diacon Hospital Center for Diabetes Care and Research in Bangalore, India.
She became interested in research relating to cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular disease while studying diabetology. The burden of diabetes is a large public health issue in India, with more than 69 million individuals with diabetes (based on estimates from the International Diabetes Federation in 2016). Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in individuals with diabetes, with a large number of individuals unaware that they have hypertension or other cardiovascular risk factors.
As Bhavana says "further research is needed to better comprehend the intertwined mechanisms underlying the different aspects of the metabolic syndrome. The magnitude of the problem, and the need for a greater understanding to develop strategies to address the treatment gaps, triggered my interests".
