World Hypertension League call for for applications for Chief Executive Officer (CEO): Deadline for receipt of applications 24th May

To assist the WHL achieve its mandate, a senior administrative position is required to assist in the development and implementation of a strategic plan, developing partnerships and coordinating activities with other organizations, and in particular fund raising to increase the capacity of the World Hypertension League to achieve its mandate.

As a coalition of national hypertension organizations, the World Hypertension League (WHL) is in a unique position and strategically placed to help implement the WHO/UN targets and indicators - 25 by 25.  The goal is to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) by 25% by the year 2025.  Suggested indicators are to reduce the incidence of hypertension by 25%, tobacco smoking by 30%, dietary salt consumption by 30% and physical inactivity by 10%.   While all of these are within the mandate of the WHL, reducing hypertension prevalence, reducing dietary sodium and improving hypertension control will be the focus. 

To assist the WHL achieve its mandate, a senior administrative position is required to assist in the development and implementation of a strategic plan, developing partnerships and coordinating activities with other organizations, and in particular fund raising to increase the capacity of the World Hypertension League to achieve its mandate.

The CEO should be a world leader with passion and commitment to assist the WHL to fulfill its mandate for prevention and control. The CEO will function under the direction of the President and report to the Executive Board, to position WHL as an important player to fulfill the WHO/UN targets. 

Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Recruiting additional national organizations with a hypertension focus for WHL membership and maintaining WHL member organizations.
  • Developing partnerships with other international NGOs and GOs, to help coordinate international hypertension prevention and control activities.
  • Fund raising with commercial and non-commercial funders.
  • Developing a dissemination plan for hypertension resources to national hypertension organizations.
  • Ensuring WHL resources are translated to languages and cultures of the major populations of the world
  • Overseeing communications including website, twitter, blogs and media relations.
  • Developing, populating and overseeing WHL committees for implementing the WHL work plan with WHL committee chairs.
  • Work with board members and WHL member organizations to ensure optimum engagement of countries and regions in the WHL work plan.
  • Hiring and overseeing WHL staff.
  • Setting regular board and council meetings with agendas in conjunction with the Secretary General and the President.

Salary will be based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant for a non governmental charitable organization position.  Interested applicants should provide a letter of interest indicating how they can fulfill the role of CEO of the WHL, an up to date curriculum vita and the names and contact information of 3 people who will provide references.
