Prof. Y.K Seedat - winner of the 1st ISN Pioneer Award for Africa
Professor Y.K. Seedat has been selected as the 1st recipient of the 2013 ISN Pioneer Award for Africa.
The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Pioneer Awards were recently established to recognize outstanding and sustained contributions to the establishment and/or development of nephrology in the various emerging regions of the world. Nominations were sought from the ISN Global Outreach (GO) Regional Committees; evaluated by the ISN GO Core Committee; and one individual from each region was selected and then ratified by the Executive Committee and the Council.
Professor Seedat’s selection for this honour reflects ISN’s recognition of his multiple roles in the advancement of medicine and medical education in South Africa and in particular his pioneering efforts in difficult times to insure that renal replacement therapy in his country has been available to all of its citizens regardless of their race or the colour of their skin. He has set a standard that exemplifies the importance of diversity in the ISN mission and brought renal care in his country to an entirely new level.
The ISH is positively committed to opposing discrimination against people on the grounds of gender, race, colour, nationality, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, class, age, disability, having dependants, HIV status or perceived lifestyle.
