Beginning of a landmark collaboration with Afghanistan Endocrine Society and Kabul University of Medical Sciences
It gives us immense pleasure to update you on the recent MoU signing and sensitization workshop with the Afghanistan Endocrine Society and the Kabul University of Medical Sciences that was held at PHFI on the 27th of July, 2018. The Certificate Course in Management of Hypertension will also be adapted and implemented in Afghanistan as a part of this collaboration.
This landmark meeting marked the beginning of a collaboration between the Public Health Foundation of India and two premier organizations in Afghanistan i.e. the Afghanistan Endocrine Society and the Kabul University of Medical Sciences. The delegation from Afghanistan that represented the two organizations included Dr. Mohammad Wali Naseri (Secretary General, Afghanistan Endocrine Society and Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, Kabul University of Medical Sciences) and Dr. Ahmad Zia Mukhlis (Treasurer, Afghanistan Endocrine Society). Dr. Sanjay Kalra (National expert, CCMTD) and Dr. J. N. Srivastava (Advisor, QI Division, NHSRC) were also present in the day’s proceedings.
The meeting started with a sensitization workshop during which the delegation from Afghanistan were apprised regarding the various capacity building initiatives being implemented by the Centre for Chronic Conditions and Injuries at PHFI. The workshop witnessed detailed discussions on the implementation protocol as well as brainstorming sessions to discuss ways for the roll out and successful implementation of the program in Afghanistan. The sensitization workshop came to an end at 5pm after which a formal MoU signing ceremony was held at the PHFI board room. Prof K. Srinath Reddy and Prof D. Prabhakaran were present at the MoU signing ceremony during which the PHFI and Afghanistan collaboration brochure was also formally released.
The Afghanistan Endocrine Society will be adopting the Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM), Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (CCGDM), Advanced Certificate Course in Prevention and Management of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease (ACMDC), Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders (CCMTD), Certificate Course in Evidence Management of Diabetic Retinopathy (CCDR) and the Certificate Course in Management of Hypertension (CCMH). The Kabul University of Medical Sciences, in addition to the above mentioned courses, will also be adopting Certificate Course in COPD and Asthma (CCCA), Certificate Course in Women’s Health (CCWH) and the Certificate Course in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (CCCS). It has been proposed to include the courses in the teaching curriculum of post-graduate students currently undergoing training at the Kabul University of Medical Sciences.
We are extremely grateful to Prof. K. Srinath Reddy (President, PHFI) and Prof. D. Prabhakaran (Vice President, Research and Policy, PHFI) for their visionary leadership, untiring support and guidance to all our initiatives. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Sanjay Kalra who was instrumental in forging these two collaborations.
We would like to thank the International Society of Hypertension for their collaboration with PHFI and their support to the CCMH initiative. We hope that this partnership will enable the program reach many more countries and assist in the strengthening of health systems in order to combat the hypertension epidemic.
