A request from the ISH to join forces with PASCAR to focus on improving hypertension management and control in Africa was kindly accepted by Professor Bongani Mayosi, the President of PASCAR. As a result, three ISH Members who serve on the Regional Advisory Group for Africa, were invited as speakers to a Joint PASCAR/ISH Session on Hypertension at the recent meeting in Mauritius.
Trevor describes his proudest moments, and the highlight of his graduate research experience, as receiving an Annual High Blood Pressure Research Conference New Investigator Award in San Francisco, 2014 and an ISH oral presentation award during the same trip.
The September 2015 issue of ISH Hypertension News is now available. This includes a six part Hot off the press section, commissioned reports on (1) Hypertension in pregnancy (2) Statins and Myalgia: Fact or Fiction? (3) Pulmonary Hypertension (4) Biochemical Testing for Non-Adherence to Antihypertensive Medications, a focus on Professor Enrico Agabiti Rosei's excellent group in Brescia, Italy and much more. The ISH New Investigator Network recently created a platform on LinkedIn for young professionals in hypertension research to connect, find researchers in similar fields of interest and to establish exciting new collaborations and research ideas.

Umeå University, Sweden (34,000 students and 4,300 employees) has recently awarded Professor Lars H Lindholm its most prestigious award, the gold medal of merit, for "his outstanding work in research and research education over very many years". This is a singular honour as the gold medal has only been awarded twice during this century.

Japanese Hypertension Society set up light-up events around World Hypertension Day 2013. Eight landmarks in six areas were lit up with red as a symbol of arterial blood and blue for venous blood. To add to this they organised public blood pressure measurement sessions and meetings for continual medical education.
