20th Argentine Congress of Hypertension

The Argentine Society of Hypertension held its 20th Congress in the city of Rosario from 18th to 20th April under the slogan "Hypertension: beyond the numbers, a global vision". The Organizing Committee was chaired by Dr. Diego Nannini, while the Scientific Committee was led by Dr. Fernando Filippini. Sincere thanks to these committee members for giving the ISH the opportunity, via Dr. Cesar Romero, to promote the New Investigator Network in their region.

The ambitious scientific program included plenary lectures, round tables, discussion panels, breakfasts with experts, interactive rounds of clinical case discussions, presentations of brief communications, and electronic poster sessions. Approximately 130 national speakers and international special guests participated in the scientific program, for example Professors Josep Redón, Giuseppe Mancia, Bryan Williams, Antonio Coca, Peter Nilson, Krzysztof Narkiewicz, Nieves Martell Claros, Thomas Unger; Oscar Carretero, León Ferder, Empar Lurbe, Leopoldo Raij, Ariel Gómez, Roberto Franco and Frida Plavnik. More than 2.350 physicians and researchers attended this congress, and also 250 nurses participated in a parallel scientific activity. Awards were given for the best original research papers presented in oral and poster format. The Annual Fellowships to Promote Hypertension Research was delivered as the Argentina Society of Hypertension distributes 10% of the income of the congresses to support epidemiological, clinical and basic research, and also the Young Investigator “Dr. Carlos Romero” Award and the attendant to the 2013 European Summer School were designated. The Argentine Arterial Hypertension Society presented its book Hypertension epidemiology, physiology, physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment which editors were Drs. Hernán Gómez Llambí and Daniel Piskorz with 190 authors and 680 pages. During the meeting Dr. Felipe Inserra, a well-known nephrologist, was elected as the new President of the Argentine Society of Hypertension from 2013 till 2015.
